One of the perks of being a community reporter is that you cover community councils.
Okay, so dragging yourself out the house on a wet and windy Tuesday night to go and listen to people talk about parking problems or the like may not seem the most appetising thing in the world, but as a source of local contacts and stories, community councils are brilliant.
I cover the Mount Florida Community Council, which hold a meeting every fourth Tuesday of the month- full details are on our Community Calendar.
At the most recent meeting on 22 January, a no show by an expected guest resulted in a good wee story.
Here it is in its full 'journalistic' format:
A G42 community council expressed their disappointment at a Glasgow City Councillor's failure to show at their most recent meeting.
Langside Liberal Democrat Cllr Paul Coleshill was meant to appear at the most recent meeting of Mount Florida Community Council on at 7.00pm Tuesday 22 January.
However, the councillor didn't attend the meeting at Battlefield East Parish Church and the community council hadn't been given a reason for his absence.
Jim Scott, chair of the community council, spoke of his disapproval at the meeting:
“We were expecting Cllr Coleshill to come tonight. We received no word from him about not making it. He knew it was on and we'd like it noted that we're disappointed he's not turned up.”
The Mount Florida Community Council meeting was on at the same time as two others that were significant to the southside.
A meeting about the proposed Southside Festival for the 28 June this year was held at Queen's Park Church that evening, as well as the public meeting arranged by Save Pollok Park at Pollokshaws Burgh Hall, which over 500 people attended to discuss the Go Ape plans for a treetop adventure course in Pollok Park.

Superb
Great reporting once again from the ever entertaining Mike! Kepp up the good work
Tuesdays - wet or otherwise.
I'm sorry I did not go to the Mount Florida community council in January but no discourtesy was intended, I am sorry to say that I messed up counting Tuesdays.
I had miscounted which Tuesday was the 4th Tuesday in January (the 4th Tuesday is the day of the Mt Florida CC). The reason I didn’t apologise for not showing whilst attending another meeting was that I (wrongly) thought there was no clash with the ‘Go Ape' meeting.
I did however think there was a potential clash - according to my counting the Tuesday in the last week of January as the 4th (when it was the fifth) - with the 'Future of Shawlands' meeting - but, since the Mt Florida CC usually start at 7pm I went along intending to crave the meetings indulgence, and speak early so that I could attend the Shawlands meeting (at Langside halls) at 7.30. When I showed up at the church hall I didn't understand why the hall was dark and no one else showed up, but was able to go to the Shawlands meeting in Langside hall earlier than I had expected.
Mike Farrel left a message on my mobile on Friday 1 Feb, (at 6.14pm) asking why I did not attend and I e-mailed this explanation (at 6.38), and I e-mailed the community council at the same time. Paul
