Work on the regeneration of Toryglen has ground to a halt after brown asbestos fibres were found in the ground there.
Over the last few weeks, contractors working for Glasgow City Council have been working on a big drainage scheme in the area, getting it ready for future housing and retail development.
But the digging has uncovered soil containing brown asbestos fibres and now work has been brought to a complete standstill.
Further samples of the area will be taken by workmen in full protective gear and work won't re-start until contractors have discovered the extent of the problem and come up with a way of dealing with it.
The council says there is no risk to residents, but has sent out a letter telling them about the problem. Click
