Driver helps abused asylum seeker

Strathclyde Police want to trace a driver who helped an asylum seeker who was beaten and locked-up by a gang. He's about 40 and drives a four-door light green saloon car. Can you help?

Strathclyde Police Press Release

Detective Inspector Gary Thomson said: "Further enquiries have revealed that the 18-year-old man arrived in the United Kingdom from Pakistan in the week preceding July 6 2007. The man has told us that he was held captive by the people who brought him to the UK in what appeared to be a disused factory at an unspecified location along with other persons including his sister."
"Throughout his journey the man states that he and his sister were continually physically abused before he managed to escape. He was then apparently picked up by a male motorist on the evening of Friday 6 July 2007, although at present the location of where this took place is not known. The 18 year old has also told us that he stayed with the motorist, who had a wife and two children, at his house until Monday 9 July 2007 when he was dropped off in Pollokshields.
"The only details that we have about the motorist are that he drove a green-coloured four door saloon car.
"I would again appeal to this man to come forward as he will be able to give us vital information about where he picked the man up and allow us to progress enquiries to identify the location of this factory."
Anyone with information should contact Cathcart Police Office on 0141 532 4900 or alternatively anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111

I KNOW WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO BE A VICTIM OF THE ASYLUM SEEKERS WHO CONGREGATE AROUND LANGSIDE RD AT ALLISON STREET

THESE MEN AND WOMEN INTIMIDATE THE ELDERLY BY THEIR SHOUTING AND TERRORIZE DRIVERS BY JAY WALKING IN FRONT OF CARS, THESE PEOPLE SHOULD LEARN TO ABIDE BY UK RULES AND REGULATIONS, OR SEEK ASYLUM BACK IN THEIR HOME LAND

Asylum seekers

Thanks for posting Anonymous. A few things strike me:

1. "THIS GUY MUST HAVE UPSET A LOT OF PEOPLE"
Is the suggestion here that the guy in this story deserved what he got? I really hope not. This is a horrific story.

2. "I KNOW WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO BE A VICTIM OF THE ASYLUM SEEKERS WHO CONGREGATE AROUND LANGSIDE RD AT ALLISON STREET"
Most of the people who are on the streets in Govanhill aren't asylum seekers - they're from Eastern European countries that are members of the European Union and are here to find work. They're here legally. And they're barred from getting most benefits until they've worked in the UK for a year.

3. "THESE MEN AND WOMEN INTIMIDATE THE ELDERLY BY THEIR SHOUTING AND TERRORIZE DRIVERS BY JAY WALKING IN FRONT OF CARS"
If the only folk who shouted in the streets and jay walked in Glasgow were asylum seekers, it'd be a much quieter place than it is. Of course, we all know that's not the case. That's not to say that we ignore problems of anti-social behaviour - whoever causes them - it's just to say that there's no point kidding ourselves on that G42 was a happy paradise up until the arrival of more folk from abroad and to blame them for all our problems.
