Shawlands Campaign

The new issue of G41 is out this week, with an update on how things are progressing on the campaign for a town centre plan for Shawlands.

One thing I wasn't able to fit in to the print edition was a letter we received from Rev Fiona Gardner of South Shawlands Church.
We've had the best part of 100 names on our petition handed in by people who've been collecting signatures at the church, and the minister has also taken the time to write to G41, Nicola Sturgeon MSP and Clr Archie Graham (Langside Ward, Labour) listing issues highlighted by members of the congregation. Here's what she said:

Baldy Bane - Fundraising at its Best

Monday 4th February 2008

Howls of laughter could be heard coming from the scout hall on Mosside Road, Shawlands on Saturday night. Local theatre company; Baldy Bane was putting on a post Christmas show in aid of the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign. The show ‘Tam O’Shanter’s Bairns’ wove a magical tale around Tam’s horse Meg who had lost her tail whilst Tam had been spying on some witches in the woods late one night. What followed was a hilarious tale with characters such as Griselda the wicked witch, wolves, Mac orang-utans and of course Tam’s Bairns.

Shawlands Arcade

I have recently moved to the Shawlands area and feel that it's a nice little bit of town to live in and i'm enjoying myself here. I have however noticed the state of the Shawlands aracade, by the state i mean that there are a large amount of units for let which adds to a slightly forlorn overall appearance. Does anyone actually know what the plans are for the arcade?

Shawlands & Langside Traffic Scheme

Glasgow City Council has approved a new traffic scheme for Shawlands, Langside and Camphill. There are lots of new yellow lines and one way restrictions. One of the main ideas is to try to stop drivers parking on pavements - especially at junctions. Click on the attachment below to see what's in store!
