It's actually 38 metres
Having discussed this at length with the Council, when it was installed and then again today, the bus stop is actually 38 metres long. Buses don't seem any bigger than they have ever been but now you need:
13 metres for the bus to draw in
19 metres for the length of the bus
6 metres after the bus stop for the bus to pull out
38 metres will now be the standard size of a bus stop according to the Council Quality Bus Corridor section. This has been done to accommodate disabled people. I challenged this on the basis that the new accessible bus stops have a raised pavement. As usual disabled people are being used as an excuse for something that is nothing to do with them. I think we would see a big difference if expenditure for disabled access was allocated by disabled people. I'm sure disabled access to Langside Halls would come before spending money on 38 metre bus stops everywhere. On the positive side bigger bus stops will mean more cars parked in bus stops and more money from parking tickets.
As an aside I don't have any sympathy for Danny Singhs. I have the misfortune to stay across the road from their premises and a more anti-social business you couldn't find. The Council say he was consulted and his only concern about the bus stop moving back to outside his shop (it was there for years up until a year ago) was litter. This from the shopkeeper who sweeps out his shop on to the public footpath!
