One-off Events
Do you know about an Event that's happening in G41? Post it on the Events Calendar!
For one-off Events, it couldn't be easier to do.
1. In the Navigation block on the left had side of the page, click on Create Content
2. Then click on Event
3. Put in the Start date, with the time (it's in 24-hour clock format)
4. Put in the End date, with the time
5. Give your Event a title in the Title box
6. Give your Event a tag (see Create Tags below to find out more!)
7. Put more details about your Event in the Body box
8. Click Preview
9. Make sure you're happy. If not, make any changes you want
10. Click Submit
And that's it!
Repeat Events
Sometimes you might want to create an Event that isn't a one-off. It might be a class that happens every week, or a community council meeting that happens on the same day every month.
Here's how to place that Event in the Events Calendar.
1. In the Navigation block on the left had side of the page, click on Create Content
2. Then click on Event
3. Put in the Start date for the first day you want the event to appear, with the time (it's in 24-hour clock format)
4. Put in the End date for the first day you want the event to appear, with the time. (The End date will nearly always be the same as the Start date - remember that this step is just telling the Events Calendar about the FIRST time that the Event will appear. We'll make it repeat later.)
5. Just above the Title box, click the arrow where it says Repeat
6. Ignore the part that says End Settings for now, we'll come back to it later
7. Click the arrow next to where it says Advanced
8. Now you'll see a whole load of different options. Don't panic! Just leave the Interval box set at 1.
9. Under that, you'll see a box called Day(s). Scroll down all the options in the box. There's a lot of them. Just pick the one that you need. Let's look at some examples:
Example 1 - Same day every week
Say you're creating an Event for a Yoga class that happens every Friday at 10am. In the Day(s) box, just click Friday. Then all you have to do is click the Preview button at the bottom, make sure all the information is correct and then click Submit. Your Event will repeat every Friday for ever.
Example 2 - Same day every week with end date
Say your class is only running for 10 weeks. You only want it to repeat 10 times. We can do that by going back and clicking on End Settings.
Just the follow the same steps as for Example 1 - but don't click on Preview or Submit yet! Go back and click on End Settings.
Now you have a choice. You can either put in the last date when you want the Event to appear in the Events Calendar OR you can change the Count box to 10. Either way, you're telling the Events Calendar that you want it to stop repeating the event after 10 weeks. Then all you have to do is click the Preview button at the bottom, make sure all the information is correct and then click Submit.
Example 3 - Same weekday every month
Say you're creating an Event for a community council meeting that happens on the first Monday of every month. No bother!
Just follow Steps 1 to 9 above. Scroll down the options in the Day(s) box and click on 1st Monday.
Now click Preview. Make sure all the info is correct. Then if you're happy, click Submit.
The Events Calendar will now repeat your event on the 1st Monday of every month
Example 4 - Same weekday every month, with one month missed out
Most community councils take a break from meeting over the summer. So how do you do that? Easy.
You've followed Steps 1 to 9 above. You've selected 1st Monday from the Day(s) box.
Now, underneath the section that says Advanced is another section called Exceptions. Click on that.
Say the community council doesn't meet in July. Click on the left hand box where it says Exception Editor and scroll down to July. Then click Add Exception.
Now click Preview. Check the info is right, and then click Submit.
Example 5 - Same weekday every month, with more than one month missed out
Say the community council also doesn't meet in August. You can add that Exception in just the same way - but only after you've already added the one for July! You can't submit two exceptions at a time!
So after you've followed the steps for Example 4, you'll see the Event with the July Exception. Now just click Edit and follow the steps for for Example 4 to also add the August Exception.
Now click Preview. Check the info is right, and then click Submit.
