Go Ape gets go ahead from council

The proposal for a Go Ape adventure course in Pollok Park was given the nod by the council's Planning Committee today, following months of controversy. Councillors voted 14 to 6 in favour of the planning application.

We'll bring you an in-depth report of the meeting shortly, with all the detail of who said what. But the latest news today is that Pollokshields Conservative councillor David Meikle, one of the six who opposed the application, has since resigned from the Planning Committee.
He told G41:
"Following today’s outrageous decision to approve Go Ape I can no longer sit as a member of the Planning Committee. Go Ape is a fantastic facility but will, in my opinion, have a detrimental impact on the North Wood and the Burrell Collection.
"The proposal my fellow councillors approved today is just a step too far and unlike the 14 councillors who approved this scheme I have listened to my constituents, to the people of Glasgow and the Save Pollok Park group, who made a convincing argument against the application at today’s hearing. This is why I have resigned from the Committee."
Final say on Go Ape now goes to the Scottish Government, as the City Council has a financial interest in the application.
