Since the beginning of October, Glasgow-based artists Jess Thorpe and Natasha Gore (Glas(s) Performance) have led a series of meetings between students from 2nd year Contemporary Performance Practice students from the
RSAMD and 12 adults with learning disabilities supported by Key Housing.
The purpose of these meetings was to spend time together and to establish a community: not only between the students and the group of adults but for the group itself (while they are all supported by Key Housing, they were
not part of an established group previous to this project). By establishing this community, the lead artists are aiming to create something that will continue to exist after the project itself is over.
As well as establishing a community, the project will culminate in a one-off performance entitled ‘Public Displays of Rhythm', Friday 23 November, 7.30pm at Langside Halls. This will be a piece of contemporary devised performance with both the students and the group of adults performing in it.
In their project website www.publicdisplaysofrhythm.co.uk the students describe this performance
as being ‘inspired by who we are, where we have come from, and what it means to meet people’.
